Our Mission
At Chilean Wool our mission is to deliver next generation digital pathology analysis services and applications that will help transform and radically improve cancer research, detection, and treatment. We develop and employ advanced AI techniques coupled with rigorous quality control processes to glean salient information from vast amounts of data in tissue images and transform this information into additional insights in cancer pathophysiology and response to treatment.
As our collective understanding of cancer has improved, the importance of the body’s immune response has become increasingly clear. Recent studies have indicated the spatial context and nature of immune infiltrates in tumor regions and their invasive margins are important in cancer prognosis and treatment response. Chilean Wool aims to deliver quantifiable and reproducible characterizations of tumor-associated lymphocytes that go far beyond what can be achieved by manual inspection of tissue samples.

Our team has been involved in numerous collaborative efforts that demonstrate the power of AI algorithms in characterizations of tumor infiltrating lymphocytes and their relationship to clinical outcome. A few sample publications are listed below.
Deep learning generates maps of tumor inflitrating lymphocytes (TILs) in whole slide tissue images from13 cancer types. Spatial TIL patterns correlate with tumor and immune molecular features, cancer type, and outcome.
AI algorithms are used for quantitative evaluation of spatial patterns of tumor and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes in diagnostic breast cancer whole slide images.
Deep learning models generate the largest collection of tumor infiltrating lymphocyte maps in 7983 whole slide images from 23 types of cancer.
